William Thomas Vinson February 9, 1948 – September 16, 2021, Greenville, South Carolina
William Thomas Vinson, 73, passed away Thursday, September 2021 in the presence of God’s grace and mercy and the love of his two daughters.
Known throughout his life by family and friends as Tommy, he was born in Union, South Carolina; the third child and only son of Mary Juanita and Grady Lewis Vinson. He was the grandson of Doug and Mary Sprouse and William and Ida Vinson also of Union. His childhood was spent in Union and Anderson counties and from the age of ten and throughout the remainder of his life he lived in Greenville, South Carolina. He attended Wade Hampton High School and Camden Military School prior to enlisting in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1970.
Tommy was employed by Eastern Business Forms, Greenville Hospital System (Simpsonville), and Genesis Nutrition. Tommy was an avid movie fan, especially westerns, he enjoyed fishing, classic cars, and through sharing and listening, was a weaver of tall tales with a cold Budweiser in one hand.
Tommy is survived and loved by his daughters; Melissa (Jason) Riopelle of Pegram, Tennessee and Dawn (Billy) Easler of Simpsonville, SC and grandchildren McKenna, Caleb, and Alexandra Riopelle of Pegram, Tennessee. Also his sisters, Elizabeth (Libby) Gilliam of Greer, SC, Susan (Roy) Cooke of Edisto Island, SC and Rebecca (Lynn) of Lexington, SC, and brother-in-law, Carlton Gutshall of Traveler’s Rest, SC.
In addition to his parents, Tommy was predeceased by his sister Gail Gutshall of Traveler’s Rest, SC.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Greenville and Prisma Health Greenville for their patience, care and treatment of Tommy.
The Cremation Society of South Carolina - Westville Funerals assisted the family with private arrangements. A public visitation and service will not be scheduled in accordance with the plans and wishes of Tommy.
