William "Larry" Evatt

September 19, 1950 — September 11, 2024

Greenville

William "Larry" Evatt, known affectionately as Larry to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home on September 11, 2024, at the age of 73. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, on September 19, 1950, Larry grew up with a love for his hometown that he carried throughout his life.

After proudly serving his country in the Navy, Larry pursued his education, earning both a Bachelor's and an associate's degree. His education led him to a fulfilling career where he dedicated 28 years of his life as a plant operator with the state. Larry’s strong work ethic and commitment to his profession were evident to all who knew him.

Larry’s personal life was as rich and vibrant as his professional journey. He found love not just once but twice. His first marriage gifted him with a daughter, and though it ended, it led him to his soulmate, Cindy Christine Evatt (Osgood). Married for thirty-eight joyous years, he and Cindy were a testament to love and dedication. Together they raised a beautiful family, including their son Stanley Lawrence Evatt, his wife Jaime, and their children, Collin and Juliette; stepdaughter Christa Harvey and her family; and Bonnie Burnett Evatt, his daughter-in-law, with her daughter Chell and family. Larry was also a cherished grandfather to grandchildren Collin and Juliette, and Chell, and reveled in the joy of his great-grandchildren, Sophian and Barachel.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, William Hershell Evatt, who passed away in 1983, his mother, Mary Elizabeth Leopard Evatt, who departed in 2019, his sister, Joyce Elizabeth Evatt Christopher, who died in early 2023, and his esteemed brother-in-law, Chris Columbus Christopher. He is also survived by his nephews, Patrick Christopher, Paul Christopher, his wife Jennifer, and their daughter Morgan.

A proud resident of Dacusville, SC, Larry discovered the joys of rural life, where he found tranquility in farming and gardening, indulging his love for the land and livestock. Early mornings found him hand-milking cows before heading off to a day's work, a testament to his connection with nature and his indefatigable spirit.

Beyond his work and farm life, Larry was a man of faith and community. He cherished his time at Harvest Community Church  in Dacusville, SC, and later found kinship and purpose at Grace Baptist Church, in Greenville, SC. There, together with his family, Larry devoted himself to outreach activities, working in soup kitchens, nursing homes, and eventually pouring his heart into the Church Thrift Store in Easley, SC.

Known for his loving nature, Larry was also kind and deeply faith-filled. He found solace and delight in reading the Bible, listening to gospel music, and watching a broad spectrum of television from Christian programming to Westerns, science fiction, and even cartoons. He enjoyed spending time with his son working on tractors and automobiles, each moment a cherished memory for those left behind.

Even as his health declined, Larry's spirits were lifted by the simple joys of life. The arrival of two little male puppies at home offered him new delight; Larry delighted in the name Willie for the smallest one that stayed with the family. He took pleasure in the thought of enjoying the fruits from the trees and bushes he helped plant, alongside Cindy.

In each role Larry fulfilled – husband, father, grandparent, friend, veteran, and servant of the faith – he brought light and strength, touching lives with a gentle kindness that will be remembered by many. While his earthly journey has concluded, the lessons he imparted and the love he shared remain as a guiding light for all who knew him. Larry's life was a testament to the power of faith, family, and a heart that always had room for one more.

As we bid farewell to William "Larry" Evatt, let us hold close the memories and legacy he leaves behind – a legacy rich with love and service. His impact on the world was profound, and he will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
