William E. “ Bill “ Hollowell, Jr., 90, of Greenwood, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in Greenwood. Born on May 16, 1927 in Columbia, South Carolina to his parents, William Hollowell, Sr. and Alice Frances (Scott) Hollowell. He lived in Seneca and Greenwood, South Carolina and also in Vienna, West Virginia where he raised his family. He graduated from North Carolina State University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then went on to work for the DuPont Washington Works Plant in Parkersburg, West Virginia where he retired after 35 years of service. Following his retirement he took a job with Toshiba as an Engineering Manager in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bill was also an Emergency Room Volunteer at both the Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca for 20 years and the Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood for 7 years He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed camping, white water kayaking, snow skiing and spelunking (exploring caves).
Bill is preceded in death by his parents. Those who will most cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Nancy Hollowell of Greenwood, South Carolina; his daughters, Catherine L. Brown and her husband, Larry of Talking Rock, Georgia and Barbara S. Hollowell of Seneca, South Carolina; his son, Scott Hollowell of Peachtree City, Georgia; his four grandchildren, Adam Brown and his wife, Meleah, Georgia Hollowell and Sophie and Kate Hollowell; his great grandson, Everett William Brown.
A memorial service to remember and honor Bill’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Asbury Hall of Wesley Commons, 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, South Carolina 29646.
