William “Bill” McGowan Littlejohn, 96, of Greenville, SC, died Jan. 28, 2018.
Born in Spartanburg, SC, Bill was the son of Charles Edward Littlejohn and Marian Brown. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Charles Edward Littlejohn, Jr., his wife, Harriet Rose Barton Littlejohn, and a son, William McGowan Littlejohn, Jr. He is survived by a daughter, Beverly Barton Littlejohn, of St. Petersburg, FL; and a son, Thomas Kenneth Littlejohn, daughter-in-law Alice Fuller Littlejohn and granddaughter Charlotte Rose Littlejohn of Greenville, SC.
Bill attended Edwards Military Institute, Salemburg, NC, and graduated from Clemson University (formerly Clemson Agricultural College) with a B.S. degree in Textile Engineering. He worked for Woodside Mills/Dan River Woodside as a cost accountant.
During World War II, Bill served in the Army Air Force as a B17 navigator. He was very proud of his military service.
Bill and his wife, Harriet, were married for almost 69 years. They enjoyed traveling around the area to promote Bill’s post-retirement hobby, Littlecrafts by Littlejohn, especially his hand-crafted bird feeders that were sold in many local retail establishments. Bill was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and, in addition to his woodworking hobby, Bill enjoyed fishing, golf, gardening and many other interests, as well as his Clemson Tigers.
A funeral service will be held Sat., Feb. 3, 2 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Greenville. A private burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends before and after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, Clemson University, PruittCares Foundation, Meals on Wheels or any charity of the donor’s choice.
