Walter Andrew Kirby

Walter Andrew Kirby, fondly known as Drew by his loved ones, completed his earthly journey on July 12, 2024, surrounded by his family in his hometown of Greer, SC. Born on August 16, 1957, in the same close-knit community, Drew's life was a testament to the values of love, generosity, and dedication.

Drew's early years were spent among the familiar streets of Greer, where he cultivated lifelong friendships and honed the skills that would later define his career. A proud graduate of Greer High School, he carried with him the spirit of his alma mater, demonstrating integrity and resilience in all his endeavors. His career as a machinist was marked by precision and a commitment to excellence, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Drew's heart was always at home, where he shared his life with his beloved wife, Donna F. Kirby. Together, they raised two sons, Corey A. Kirby and Kyle W. Kirby, instilling in them the values of hard work and the importance of family. Drew's siblings, Sharon Van Patton (Steve), Shelia Johnson, Rena Cooper, and Joey Kirby (Karen), shared in the joys and sorrows of life with him, creating memories that will now be cherished more than ever. The love he had for his family extended to his many nieces and nephews, as well as his grand nieces and nephews, who all held a special place in his heart.

Beyond his professional achievements, Drew was a man of many interests. His hands were rarely still, as he found joy in woodworking, creating intricate pieces that were both functional and beautiful. He was a devoted fan of the classic television series "Gunsmoke," which he could often be found enjoying in the comfort of his living room. His handy nature was evident in everything he touched, from meticulously assembling model cars to the loving care he bestowed upon his 1985 GMC truck, which was not just a vehicle but a passion project.

Drew's love for his family was also expressed through his presence at family sporting events. Cheering from the stands, he was a fixture at games, always supporting and encouraging with a proud smile. His generosity extended beyond his immediate family, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to those in need.

Those who knew Drew would describe him as a loving and generous man, whose handy skills were surpassed only by the size of his heart. He lived his life with a quiet strength and a gentle kindness that touched everyone he met. As we say goodbye to Drew, we hold tight to the memories and the lessons he left behind.
