Walter Allen Gilliam

March 16, 1943 — July 21, 2021

Allen Gilliam, 78, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 21, 2021.
Born and raised a native son of upstate South Carolina, he was honorably discharged from the United States Army and received his AA degree in Business from Greenville Tech. Allen had a strong work ethic, and had been employed by Steel Heddle, Fluor Daniel Construction Company, and was the owner of ProJan Commercial Custodial Services until his retirement.
He was a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves, USC Gamecocks, and the CCU Chanticleers. He enjoyed participating in bowling and golfing, but his favorite sport was as a spectator watching his son and grandsons play baseball. He enjoyed camping and traveling and cherished the times and memories he had of taking his family on adventures from the mountains to the sea and across the country. He believed his proudest achievement was watching his children and grandchildren reach adulthood and pursue their own paths while celebrating the milestones of their journeys.
Allen was loved and survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth (Libby) Vinson Gilliam; son Greg Gilliam of Easley, SC; daughter Mandy (Todd) Gibson of Taylors, SC; grandchildren Kayla Gilliam, Nolan, and Drayton Gibson; and great-grandson, Beau Henderson.
He was predeceased by his parents, both of Greenville, SC.
Allen frequently commented on how blessed and appreciative he was for the community of friends and neighbors he and Libby shared over the years. The family wishes to express their gratitude at this time for the blessings of friendship, care, and prayers they have received from the members of this community. Deepest gratitude is given to the staff of DaVita Dialysis Center and Interim Hospice Care for their kindness and support. Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice Care.
Westville Funerals and Cremations assisted the family with private arrangements. A public visitation and service will not be scheduled in accordance with the plans and wishes of the family.
