Verner Edward “Ed” Anthony died peacefully on Thursday, June 28, 2018, surrounded by his loving wife and children in Spartanburg, South Carolina at the age of 75.
Ed is survived by his wife, Jane Dowden Anthony; children, Aaron Anthony, Esther Grace Uribe, and Lydia Anthony Lundgren; grandchildren, Shakti Anthony, Nova Luz Uribe, and Asha Anthony; siblings, Deitra Marie Anthony and Kinzie George Anthony; and nephews Carl Anthony and David Anthony. He is preceded in death by siblings, Roy Marc Anthony, Daryl “Susu” Anthony, and Arthur Doc Anthony; and nephews Marc Anthony and Martin Anthony.
Ed was born on November 1, 1942 in San Diego, California to Verner Edward Anthony and Gladys May Textor Anthony. He married Jane in Houston, TX on July 12, 1974. Their marriage exemplified the unconditional love of Christ and the church. Together, they created a welcoming home where people were accepted and felt drawn to their loving care. His children remember his laughter, his love, his insatiable curiosity, and his quirky sense of humor.
Ed was an inventor, a musician, a scientist, and a maker who loved to mentor and impart knowledge to young people. He was a good listener; a genuine person who knew how to be there for others. He was a devout follower of Christ, and believed the work of the church was best expressed in genuine relationships.
A funeral is scheduled for Sunday, July 1 at 2:00pm at Providence Presbyterian Church. Pastor Daniel Coleman will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ed's life. The family would like to thank the hospital staff at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care.
