Tonya Michelle Schmidt, known lovingly as Tonya, passed away on February 11, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born on May 9, 1973, in Bristol, VA, Tonya was a remarkable homemaker whose dedication to her family and friends was unmatched. Tonya's warm and caring personality allowed her to effortlessly connect with those around her. She found joy in spending quality time with her loved ones, and always made sure they felt cherished. Whether it was gathering around the dining table for a delicious meal or sharing laughter and stories, Tonya knew how to create an atmosphere of love and unity.
Tonya had a creative spirit that she beautifully expressed through various hobbies and interests. She had an innate talent for artistry, whether it be creating captivating artwork or designing unique hair styles. Her creative flair extended to all aspects of her life as she approached each day with innovation and imagination. One of Tonya's greatest passions was traveling. Exploring new places and experiencing different cultures brought her immense joy and enriched her perspective on life. But above all else, Tonya's unwavering faith in Jesus guided every aspect of her life. She found solace, strength, and inspiration in her relationship with Him. Her devotion was evident as she shared His teachings with her family and friends, leading them on their own spiritual journeys.
Tonya's role as a mother brought her immeasurable happiness. She leaves behind three adoring children: Angel Millard (husband Mark Millard), Autumn Dewberry (husband Michael Dewberry), and Ellis Gibson IV (wife Jennifer Gibson). Her love extended to her seven precious grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Their laughter and smiles warmed her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Tonya's remarkable spirit lives on through her surviving family members, who were fortunate to have been touched by her boundless love. She is survived by her mother Jane Murray, sister Lori Terry, niece, three nephews, aunt Ellen Williams, cousins Tammy and Stan Corn, Caleb Donald, Hannah McKinney, Austin Donald, as well as a large extended family and friends.
The loss of Tonya leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. Yet we find solace in knowing that she has left behind a legacy built on love, kindness, and compassion. Her inspiring presence will forever be felt in the lives of those she touched.
