Dr. Thomas ‘Tom’ David DuBois, 81, beloved husband of Faithel Toney DuBois, passed away June 30, 2022. Tom was born in Miami County, Indiana, on November 15, 1940 to Thomas and Ida Wagner DuBois.
Tom was a brilliant and caring man who touched the lives of many. There was nothing he would not do for those he cherished, or anything he could not fix or solve. He led his life in the quest for knowledge, believing “if you aren’t learning, you are dying.”
Tom received his Doctorate in Chemistry from Ohio State University in 1967. From there he went on to become an Emeritus Professor at UNC Charlotte, where he taught young minds Chemistry from 1967 until 2010. He has left a legacy of learners and always spoke with fondness as he watched his students go forward in their careers and lives.
Tom’s greatest love, though, was his family. In his last moments, he was surrounded by his wife and daughters as he peacefully went home to his first Father. Tom considered himself a “Jesus man,” and his family finds great comfort in knowing this is but a temporary goodbye.
Tom is survived by his greatest loves, his wife of nearly 49 years, Faithel DuBois; and their two daughters, Aimee Smith and Jacquie Fanning. Together his two daughters and their husbands (Chris Smith and Jason Fanning) have blessed him and Faithel with six precious grandchildren, Logan Fanning, Avery Fanning, Kendal Fanning, Emma Smith, Clark Smith and Gabriel Smith. In addition to his immediate family, Tom is also survived by four brothers, Bob, Tim, Don, and Dan DuBois, along with their families whom he greatly loved.
Prayers are requested for the family during this time of loss as they grieve the man who filled their world so profoundly.
Services will be announced at a later date.
