Timothy Hamberg, of Greenville, South Carolina passed away Friday October 9th after an extended battle with cancer.
He was born February 20, 1950 in Superior, Wisconsin. He was the eldest child of Aimo Birger Hamberg, Jr and Joyce Hellen Hamberg.
October 6, 1967 Tim was awarded the highest attainable rank in scouting of Eagle Scout.
He graduated from South Houston High School in Houston Texas in 1968 where he participated in varsity Football and Baseball. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1972 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After several years as a design engineer, he settled into a career as a plant Engineer. He worked for several local firms including Steel Heddle, Greenville, SC, The Kendall Company, Pelzer, SC and most recently for Baldor Electric, Greenville, SC.
He was commissioned into the United States Naval Reserves as a Civil Engineering Corps Officer February 16, 1982. He retired as a Captain in 2010. He received numerous commendations during his 27 year career. He was extremely proud to present his father with a Purple Heart in 2008 while on active duty.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Greenville, South Carolina, daughters Kerri Hamberg (husband David Tester) of Boston, Massachusetts, Melissa Hamberg (husband Kyle Miller) of Baltimore, Maryland, sons Eric Hamberg of Columbia, South Carolina, and Matthew Hamberg (wife Jenna) of Travelers Rest, South Carolina. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren Siiri, Lauren, Molly, Margaret, Aili, Julie, Henry and Ryan. Also surviving him is his sister Candy Hamberg of Mountain Home, North Carolina and numerous other extended family members.
He was predeceased by his mother Joyce in 1993, sister Susan in 1996 and father Bud in 2013.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday October 17th at 2 PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Travelers Rest, SC.
