Thomas Jerome Mims Jr. (Tom), 89, of Greenville, SC, passed away on September 15, 2022, surrounded by loved ones following a brief battle with cancer. Born in 1932, he was the son of the late Thomas Jerome Mims (Pete) and Valma Mims. Tom was a Greenville High graduate, attended The Citadel, and graduated from The University of South Carolina. He was a “Distinguished Military Graduate” of AFROTC, 1954, and then served in the Air Force as a Lieutenant, 1954-57. He began his career as a Consulting Economist in Atlanta and then returned to Greenville and acted as Director and Officer of Century Lincoln-Mercury, Inc with his brother, Frank Mims. He was a first-rate do-it-yourselfer, an avid auto enthusiast, and a life-long fan of the Gamecocks. He also enjoyed high-performance driving and was a graduate of Skip Barber Advanced Driving School. Tom was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenville, American Legion, USC Alumni Association, Gamecock Club, and The Poinsett Club.
In addition to his beloved wife, Karen, of 36 years, he is survived by his son, Tommy Mims (Leisle) of Daphne, Alabama; daughter, Julia Bowen of St. Petersburg, FLA; stepdaughter, Shannon Lineberger (Jeff), of Greenville, SC; and stepson, Kevin McCartney of Greenville, SC.; and 4 grandchildren, Walker and
Denman Mims, and Stokes and Sophie Lineberger. Tom was predeceased by his brother Frank, baby sister Sarah, and grandson Andrew Young.
His funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 25th, 2022 at 2:00 at First
Baptist Church of Greenville on Cleveland Street. The family will receive friends at the
home of Jeff and Shannon Lineberger, 221 Tindal Ave, after the service from 3:30-
5:30 p.m.
