Thomas DuVal Guest, 86, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away on October 23, 2021, after an extended illness. Born on March 17, 1935, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Clyde Maxwell Guest and Alsie Boyd Guest. He grew up in Greenville and graduated from Greenville High School in 1953. After attending the University of South Carolina and Furman University, he was married to Gwendolyn Hodge Guest in 1956.
He had many business ventures in Greenville including The Frame and Card Shop, Guest Studios, TNT Color Lab, Frames and Things, and Channel One Video. His photography career also included working for Hudson Studios in Greenville, Olan Mills Studios in Chattanooga, TN and Orlando, FL, and CPI Corporation in St. Louis, MO. He lived in Florida and Georgia for several years working for Bell South Yellow Pages and opening and running photography studios and frame shops. He retired from framing when he closed his last frame shop, The Sand Fly in Savannah, Georgia, at the age of 82. He returned to Greenville in 2017 and enjoyed reconnecting with family and friends.
He is survived by four children, Val Guest (Jeanne), Lynne Wynn (David), Alecia Elrod (Bobby), and Alex Wylie (John), ten grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 30 at the Kilgore-Lewis house at 560 North Academy Street in Greenville. Visitation will be at 3:00-3:45 with the service beginning at 4:00. There will be a time of sharing stories and showing photos taken by Mr. Guest. Bring your favorite photo he took and share your story!
