Theophil Dennis Schmitt

Greenville, SC- Theophil Dennis Schmitt, 85, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2022 surrounded by his wife of 60 years, Audrey, and his three daughters.
Ted was born on July 24, 1936 in Jersey City, NJ where he grew up with his two sisters Carol Maresca and Margaret Nobel. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and attended St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, NJ from which he graduated in 1961. He then began his career as a chemist working in numerous plants throughout the east coast and finally settling in Greenville, SC.
Ted is survived by his wife Audrey along with his three daughters; Audrey Brown (Ken), Melissa Wright (Howard), and Beth Teshon(Enos). He is also survived by his grandchildren; Nicholas Brown and Claire Brown; Sydney Estes ( TJ), Hampton Wright, and Banks Wright; Alexander Teshon ( Taylor) and Jonathen Teshon. In addition, he is survived by his great grandson, Hayden Estes.
Ted was known for his love for discussing polymers and chemical equations. He was a brilliant chemist who is responsible for several patents in the chemical, textile, and paint industries. He was well-versed in Latin, loved to sing old Irish songs, cook, and discuss religion.
A memorial service will be planned for a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his name to Amedisys Hospice Care 250 Commonwealth Drive Unit 105, Greenville, SC. Our family is so thankful for the nurses in this organization who helped care for him so well until the end.
