Sylvia Bounds Alerre, aged 74, otherwise known as ‘Kay’ or ‘KayKay’ to her family and friends, passed away at her home in Simpsonville, SC surrounded by family. She had been battling brain cancer for several months. Sylvia was born in 1943 in Memphis TN to William and Lois Bounds and was the oldest of two children. She graduated Memphis Central High School in 1961. A year after high school she married her high school sweetheart Rick Porter and became the mother of three children. She worked throughout her parenting years as both an office manager and financial adviser, selling life insurance for Mass Mutual. On the side she became a champion backgammon player, respected by family and friends (especially Janis) for her acute gaming skills.
In 1991, Sylvia was remarried to Dr. Ricardo Alerre, M.D. and remained happily married for 26 year up until the time of her death. Sylvia Kay is survived by her husband Ricardo, her brother Mark Bounds, her Aunt Joyce Rickman, and her three children Tiffany, Craig, and Bret Porter, her five grandchildren Dustin, Rebecca, Andrew Porter and Michael, Haylee Knotts. She was also blessed to marry into a large loving family and is survived by five step-children and their spouses, 13 step grandchildren, and 3 step great grand children. She also leaves behind numerous other relatives and friends. Services will be held on Sunday, July 30 at 1:30 PM at Greenville Memorial Gardens, 7784 Augusta Rd, Piedmont, SC at the Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers we are accepting donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Research Center in Sylvia’s name. Everyone is invited for refreshments following the ceremony at the home of Sylvia and Ricardo Alerre at 409 Aschoff Court in Simpsonville.
