In the early morning hours of Friday, June 7, 2024, Susan Lynn Phillips passed away surrounded by loved ones at Greenville Memorial Hospital following complications of a sudden heart attack. She was 66 years old.
Susan is predeceased by her father; and sister Elaine Phillips. She is survived by her mother; sisters Jerry Watson (née Phillips) and Julie Phillips; daughters Kristen Vandys (née Cooper) and Lindsay Cooper; grandchildren Caroline Davis, Jameson Faust, Lauryn Faust, and Meagan Faust; and loving pups Elizabeth and Jinx.
Born in Danville, Virginia to Francis and Carolyn Phillips on January 2, 1958, Susan spent most of her life in South Carolina.
She was an award-winning high school science teacher who was well-loved by her students and colleagues for her hearty laughter and high classroom standards. Married for 37 years to Rev. William Cooper, Susan also made her mark in communities throughout Colorado, Georgia, Virginia, and Wyoming.
Susan was foremost a devoted mother and grandmother who centered her life on caring for her family and cultivating a comforting home. A prolific gardener, Susan enjoyed creating beautiful outdoor spaces full of color, birds, rabbits, and little frog friends.
Her generosity and energetic warmth lit up every room she entered and every heart she touched. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
