Susan Delight Scoggins Harmon, 77, of Greenville, SC died peacefully on November 16, 2022, at Prisma Greenville Memorial Hospital. She had suffered for some thirty years with a debilitating lung disease and after being cared for at a nursing facility since early June, she had just been moved into the hospice unit of the hospital on the day she passed away.
Susan was born in Rock Hill, SC on July 13, 1945, the daughter of Robert Glenn Scoggins, Sr. and Alice Edwards Scoggins. She was a 1963 graduate of Winthrop Training School and received her B.S. degree at Winthrop College in 1973. She is survived by her daughter, Michele Galasso of Long Island, NY, and grandchildren Dylan and Anna Galasso, her brother, John L. Scoggins (Marty) of Pawleys Island, nieces Margaret Lynn Scoggins of Rock Hill and Barbara Scoggins McDougald (Bryan) of McConnells, great nieces Madison McDougald of Rock Hill and Morgan McDougald Shirley (Rawls) of Blackstock, great nephew Brant McDougald of McConnells and two great-great nieces, Avery and Amelia Shirley of Blackstock, and her sister-in-law Nancy Brakefield Scoggins of McConnells. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Robert G. Scoggins, Jr.
Susan was a beautiful woman with a keen sense of style in clothing and home décor who never met a stranger. As a longtime friend said, she would strike up a conversation with whomever she came across whether in elevators, on the street, or in the thrift and antique shops she loved to frequent. A pet lover who was never without a cat or dog, all of which she adored to a fault, her favorites were her poodles and Bichon Frise breed dogs which adored her in return. She inherited her mother’s green thumb and love of gardening.
A spiritual person, and born-again Christian, who was raised in the United Methodist Church, Susan was in recent years a member of Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church. In her later years as her health declined it was the people of that church, along with her friends and family, who were there to help her. For that help, her family will be forever grateful.
A memorial service will be held at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church, on Friday, December 2, at 11:00 am. Susan’s remains will be buried at a service at the family plot in the Historic Bethesda Cemetery, Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 4858 McConnells Hwy, York, SC on December 8, at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church, 207 Mitchell Road, Greenville, SC 29615
