Steven Landrum Gentry, known affectionately as Steve to his friends and family, passed away on August 9, 2024, in Spartanburg, SC. Born on June 24, 1954, in Augusta, GA, Steve's life was marked by his unwavering courage, his remarkable sense of humor, and his extraordinary ability to fix and create with his hands.

Steve served his country in the Air Force during the 1970s, a time that instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, he continued to protect and serve the community as a member of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office in the 1980s. His dedication to public service was a testament to his character, and his legacy in law enforcement is remembered by all who worked alongside him.

In his later years, Steve found his calling as an electrician, a profession that allowed him to showcase his talent for problem-solving and his passion for working with his hands.

Steve's love for history was only matched by his skill in woodworking and carpentry. His family and friends will cherish the pieces he made, each a lasting reminder of his talent and love.

Those who knew Steve will remember him as a man who could light up a room with his humor. Gentry; his daughters, Jennifer "April" Atkins (Robert Atkins) and Brandy Sowder; his eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Vicki Nichols. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jerome and Ronald Gentry. Steve's presence will also be greatly missed by his beloved dogs, Ally and Bear, who were his constant companions.

As we bid farewell to Steven Landrum Gentry, we celebrate a life lived with laughter, service, and craftsmanship. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his stories will be told for generations to come. Steve's journey through life was one of purpose, joy, and love, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, from 2-4 PM, at Cremation Society of SC - Westville Funerals, 6010 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611.
