Born on November 20, 1953, in Ellenville, NY, Steve was a man of wisdom and intelligence whose loving nature touched the lives of all who knew him.
Steve's early life in Ellenville laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning and passion for education. He carried this love for knowledge throughout his life, shaping his career first as a high school teacher, where he inspired countless students, and later as a chiropractor, where he dedicated himself to the well-being of others. His commitment to his community was further exemplified in his role as a high school basketball coach, where he not only taught the game but also life lessons to his players.
Family was the cornerstone of Steve's life. He is survived by his son, Jack Gutkin, who will remember him as a guiding light and a source of unwavering support. Steve's brother, Robert Gutkin, and sisters, Julie Champoux and Karen Gutkin, will cherish the memories of their brother's profound wisdom and the bonds they shared. His stepdaughter, Nicole Jones, will hold dear the love and kindness that Steve extended to her. He was a beloved uncle to Nadine Fodowski, Leslie Gutkin, Rachel Champoux, and David Champoux, each of whom will carry forward his legacy of love and intelligence.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Muriel Gutkin, and his cherished wife, Stephanie Powell Gutkin, whose memory remained a guiding star in his life.
An avid fan of the New York Giants, Steve's enthusiasm for football was matched only by his love for golf, geology, science, and basketball. His interests were as diverse as they were deep, reflecting his insatiable curiosity about the world around him.
