Stephen Leroy Wolverton, 82, of Greenville, SC, and husband of Pamela Lu Wolverton, peacefully went to be with the Lord in the early morning of Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Rolling Green Village.
Mr. Wolverton was born in St. Paul, Indiana on August 6, 1941. He was the son of the late Robert Wolverton and Ruth Wolverton, and is survived by his sister Roberta Hale of St. Paul, Indiana. He was a graduate of Ball State University with a bachelor's Degree. He began his professional career as an account manager for Indiana Bell moving around the state of Indiana with his young family. After moving to Columbus, Indiana he changed his career path and joined Breeden Realtors/Developers in developing and selling residential and commercial real estate. One of his most notable accomplishments was selling one of the Columbus landmarks, The Castlia Mansion at Harrison Lakes. Steve had an entrepreneurial spirit often seeking out new opportunities. He became an owner/operator with McDonalds in 1979 and relocated to Plantation, Florida with his family. McDonalds presented an opportunity to purchase multiple stores in Greenville, South Carolina. He operated three stores in the Greenville area until his last career move to join Merrill Lynch as a wealth manager until his retirement in 2007.
Steve and Pam came to know the Lord in Columbus in their early thirties. Steve loved the Lord and sought to build spiritual foundations in those around him. He was the teaching leader for 12 years with Men’s Bible Study Fellowship in Greenville working with hundreds of men to develop deeper spiritual roots. He and Pam were founding members of Brookwood Church in Simpsonville and served as a trustee for many years. Steve and Pam led small groups at Brookwood while they attended. Steve loved connecting with the people around him, and his heartfelt desire was to help them establish an active and growing relationship with Christ.
Steve was an avid golfer and his favorite foursome was playing with his three sons.
Surviving in addition to his wife Pamela are three children, their spouses, and eight grandchildren: Shane and Ann Wolverton and their children Bryn and Colten of Greenville, SC, Tobin Wolverton, and Amanda Wolverton and their children Beatty and Calhoun of Atlanta, GA, and Tagg and Susan Wolverton and their children Ben, Anna, Graeme, and Olivia of Rock Hill, SC.
There will be a private ceremony according to his wishes. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Bible Study Fellowship, an organization dear to Steve and Pam: https://www.bsfinternational.org/support/
