Stephen "Steve" Leroy Guthrie

June 9, 1950 — June 29, 2024

Greenville, SC

Stephen Leroy Guthrie, known affectionately as Steve to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024, in Greenville, SC. Born on June 9, 1950, in Williamsport, PA, Steve was a man whose laughter and generosity enriched the lives of all who knew him.

Steve was the beloved son of the late Walter Leroy (Roy) and Betty Mae Pittenger Guthrie. He shared a lifetime of love and memories with his devoted wife, Linda McDaniels Guthrie, and was a cherished father to Jennifer "Jenny" Guthrie McCrary (Carter) and Katherine "Katie" Guthrie Cook (Robert). His role as a grandfather to Lilly Kate Cook, Maeve Claire McCrary, Ford Carter McCrary, and Ellis James Cook was one of his greatest joys, and he embraced every moment with them.

He is survived by his loving siblings, Donna Guthrie (George), John Guthrie (Diane), Jim Guthrie (Dorothy), and Cherie Guthrie, as well as many adoring nieces and nephews who will miss his humor and guidance.

Steve was a proud alumnus of California State College in California, PA, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. His professional life was marked by a successful 40-year career with Kennametal Inc. as a carbide engineer salesman, from which he retired in 2015.

A man of many interests, Steve found great pleasure in spending time with his family, which was his foremost priority. He was a tinkerer at heart, often found working in his workshop, where he brought his entrepreneurial ideas to life. His faith was a cornerstone of his existence, and he served his church with passion, participating in missions and being an active member of his church home group.

Steve's easygoing nature made him a joy to be around. He could often be found reclining in his favorite chair, watching TV, and sharing laughs with those around him. His sense of humor was infectious, and his ability to find joy in the simple things was a lesson he imparted to all.

Described by those who knew him best as funny, selfless, handy, and loving, Steve's legacy is one of warmth and kindness. He had the rare ability to make everyone feel like family, and his presence was a source of comfort and happiness.

Steve's life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and selflessness. His impact on his family, friends, and community will be felt for generations to come. As we bid farewell to a man who was so much to so many, we take comfort in the countless memories and the enduring love he left behind.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Steve Guthrie was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and though he has departed from this world, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him.
