Samuel "Sam" Medley, a spirited soul known for his wisdom and handy nature, passed away on July 24, 2024, in Greenville, SC. Born on March 22, 1957, in Wadesboro, NC, to Snow and Juanita Medley, Sam's life was a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit.
Sam grew up in a large and loving family, where he was one of many siblings. Though he faced the loss of several siblings—Don Edward, Lonzo Morris, Larry Donnell, Snow Thomas III, Pastor Bertha, and Juanita M. Medley—Sam's enduring spirit never wavered. He is survived by his devoted siblings Clara Thomas (Larry), Vera Smith (Eric), Cender Gore (Daniel), and Sandra Spencer (Rickey). Sam's legacy continues through his children, Andropulus Miller, LaSheka Cruell (Adrian), and Samantha Medley, as well as his eight cherished grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Sam was predeceased by his son, Samuel McManus (Knook).
Sam served his country in the U.S. military, a period of his life that shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of duty and commitment. After his service, he worked in various jobs until his health began to decline. His colleagues and friends from his working days will remember him as a man who could always be relied upon.
Sam's interests were simple yet profound. He found joy in working and took great pride in his ability to fix anything, a skill he lovingly passed on to his son. His happiest moments were those spent with his children and grandchildren. Sam's presence was a source of comfort and guidance to his family, and his absence will leave an irreplaceable void.
Those who knew Sam would describe him as a man of great spirit. His hands, always ready to build or repair, were matched only by his wise heart and mind. He approached life's challenges with a rare combination of tenacity and grace, teaching those around him the value of perseverance and the importance of keeping a positive outlook.
As we bid farewell to Samuel Medley, we celebrate a life well-lived, a legacy of strength, and the countless memories he has left behind. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and his memory will be cherished forever.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3rd, at 3 PM, at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
