Ruth Rivera Boyer was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She left this world to be with her beloved sisters, Migdalia (Rivera) Goodwin & Iris (Rivera) Selby on November 1st, 2021 at age 73.
She was born to Virginia Nieves Rivera on May 8th 1948 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. As a small child Ruth traveled with her military based family, including sisters Iris & Migdalia and brother Josue, from Puerto Rico, to France, and back stateside. She spoke 3 languages by the age of 10. All of which she pretended to forget, except when spoken to her. After graduating from high school, Ruth spent a brief stint in Washington DC in the FBI as a fingerprint technician. Being the homebody she was she became homesick and retuned home where she was introduced on a blind date to her ex-husband, Dan Boyer. Together, they had 2 children: Rebekah (Boyer) Lanning (her favorite child) and Adam Boyer (also her favorite child).
In her younger adult years Ruth loved volunteering with Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, antiquing, visiting with friends and family, and going on infamous trips with her children and nieces & nephews. She was employed with both Sherwin Williams and Kemet Electrical as a machine operator for many years until her retirement. In her later years Ruth enjoyed “going up the road” to Harrah’s, being spoiled by her niece Ginnie, bickering and slinging chisme with her two sisters, teasing her brothers-in-law Daryl & Carl, chatting on the phone with her nieces Sundi & Christy, and spending time with her two favorite children, Adam & Rebekah. But more than anything she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids - they were her everything. She doted on Hayden Lanning, Christian Lanning, Alexandra Lanning, August Boyer, and Gracie Boyer. She especially adored her family’s newest arrival: her “baby baby” or “baby-girl” as she affectionately referred to her great granddaughter Silver Lanning.
Ruth brought immense sassiness, strength, resilience, kindness, love, laughter, and joy to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed. A celebration of life service is scheduled for 4:00 pm on Friday December, 3rd 2021 at Cremation a society of SC - Westville Funerals located at 6010 White Horse Road Greenville, SC 29611.
