Russell B Carpenter

Russel B. Carpenter, 68, husband of Catherine A.( Rumsey) Carpenter passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 16 in his home in Easley, SC.

He was born in Newburgh, NY to the late Russel D. Carpenter and Ann (Ball) Carpenter.

He served proudly in the Army for 4 years during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged at West Point, NY., where he served as an assistant Ballistic Instructor to the Cadets.

His hobbies were gardening and all types of woodworking. He is a life time member of the NRA and member of Post 36 American Legion, Ludlow, Vt.

Russ graduated from the Class of 1967 Wallkill Central High School, Wallkill, NY. His led a varied work career during his life. Before, during and after his Army service he worked in his family's business Carpenter's Gun Works as a gun smith in Plattekill, NY. He was hired as a member of the Newburgh Fire Dept for 7 years in Newburgh, NY.

Upon moving to Vermont he did gun repair and worked at GE in Rutland, VT. He then became a builder & contractor.

In 1993 he and Catherine set out on an adventure when he was hired by Burns & Roe at GITMO Naval Base, Cuba for 6 years.

They later settled in Surfside Beach, SC to be closer to family & grandchildren in 1999. He worked as Assistant Maintanence Supervisor for Oceanside Village, Surfside, SC and retired after 10 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Catherine A. (Rumsey) Carpenter. Sons: Russel Carpenter (Jacqueline Hall) of Greer, SC and Jason Carpenter (Cendy) of Easley.

Grandchildren: Jacob Carpenter (Tiffany Winchester) of Greenville, SC, Madison Carpenter (Matt Colley) of Greer, SC, Bret Carpenter of Easley, SC, Zachary Carpenter of Easley, SC, Tyler Carpenter of Greer, SC and Cole Carpenter of Easley.

Great Granddaughter McKinley Carpenter of Greenville, SC.

Mr. Carpenter is survived by his sister Mary (Duane) Trotter of Brandenton, Fl and Brother William Carpenter.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date by the family.
