Roy Alan Brightwell

Roy Alan Brightwell, 86, husband of Audrey Alice Brightwell (Smith) went to join our Heavenly Father, Tuesday, September 6, 2016 after an extended illness with Alzheimers Disease. He was residing at Greenville Glenn Memory Care, Greenville, SC.

Born September, 13, 1929 in Paddington, London, England, he was the son of the late Harry Brightwell (Royal Postman to the Queen) and Bertha Georgina (Clegg).

Mr. Brightwell was a former member of the Royal Marines serving in Malta on the HMS Destroyer “Liverpool” and a Civil Engineer with Auto Company Lucas CAV. He traveled extensively for Lucas overseas living in Brasil, Japan, U.S, Spain, France and India, eventually retiring here in the United States with his wife.

He was an avid Tottenham Hotspur Soccer fan, Cricket Player, Golfer, Gardener and Animal Lover, and was an all around Gentleman.

He was married December 12, 1949 in Kent, England to the love of his life Audrey Alice. They would have celebrated 67 years of marriage this year.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 67 years are son Roy R Brightwell and Partner Michaela Mayhew, daughter Michele Brightwell and Partner Robert Goldberg, grandsons C. Wood, Austin Abbruzzese, Hunter Abbruzzese and Tanner Abbruzzese, step grandchildren Tommy Goldberg and Lindsay Goldberg and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother Peter Radcliffe, brother David Brightwell and daughter, Helen Ann Vanden Hoek on September 5, 2016 who will “sail” into Heaven with him.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Orchard Farms Club House from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., officiated by Reverend Tony Eubanks.

In lieu of flowers donations, Memorials may be made to GHS Center for Success in Aging, Memory Care Program, 255 Enterprise Boulevard, Greenville, SC 29615 and Hooves & Paws Rescue Program, 107 Third Street, Fountain Inn, SC 29644.

Special thanks go to the caretakers at Greenville Glenn Memory Care for loving and taking care of my Dad. A big “Hello Toots” to you all.
