Ronald Lee Courtney, 76, of Walhalla, SC passed away peacefully at his home after a long battle with cancer on Sunday, February 1, 2015. He was born July 13, 1938 in Ottoman, Virginia to Noless and Cora Courtney. He graduated from Lively High School in 1955, attended Ferrum College, and completed a four year apprenticeship at Newport News Shipbuilding where he worked for 15 years. He was married to Mary Jacquelyn Walther on August 22, 1957. He was a self-employed general building contractor for 36 years and an active member of the Westminster Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jacque, four children, Teresa Bass, Ronald Courtney, Jr., R. Keith Courtney and Kimberly Owen, ten grandchildren, Crystal Brinson, Christopher Bass, Robby Courtney, Kelly Courtney, Kristina Courtney, Ronald Courtney, III, Andrew Owen, Christian Owen, Preston Owen, and Courtney Owen all of Walhalla, SC. Also survived by his sister, Gloria Dean O’Daire of Lancaster, VA and brother, Larry Courtney of Norwood, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Nathan Courtney, Jennings Courtney and Randolph Courtney, son, James Courtney and granddaughters Courtney and Carrie Bass.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 28 at 5 o’clock at the Westminster Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4279-A South Highway 11, Westminster, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Westminster SDA Church or Hospice of the Foothills.
