Roger Smathers

Roger Smathers, 75, of Taylors, SC, passed away on January 16, 2023. He was the son of the late Cecil Smathers and Maye Smathers, born in Brevard, NC, on December 17, 1947. A Vietnam veteran, Roger proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Sharon Patton Smathers, his son Ian Smathers and daughter-in-law Katy Smathers, his daughter Brook Smathers and son-in-law Mark Claar, his granddaughter Aiyanna Lollis, and his grandsons Hunter White and Keegan Smathers. He is also survived by several lifelong friends whom he cherished dearly. Roger was a family man whom his loved ones relied upon to offer support and advice with a spice of humor and a touch of realism. He was a businessman and entrepreneur, known for weaving his artistic talents into both his professional and personal life. A renaissance man, there was little Roger couldn't do, or wouldn't do if need be, and he leaves behind a legacy of laughter, wit, love, and generosity. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him. In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be made to The Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd in Greer, SC, PO Box 1408, Greer SC, 29652. A Service of Resurrection Celebrating the Life of Roger will be held at The Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 2:00 PM, with internment in the church Rose Garden to follow the service.
