Roberta Ann Griffith walked into the presence of Jesus on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. She was met there by her husband James, her mother, Elise Clyde, her father, Robert Carrington, and her youngest son, Mark Chambers. Roberta leaves behind many loved ones including her daughter, Nita Lyda (Jeff), son, Paul Chambers (Nancy), and daughter-by-love, Jennifer Chambers. Roberta was an immensely proud Nana to six grandchildren, Cory Lyda (Morgan), Dr. Caitlin Lyda Hiott (Grayson), Robert Chambers (Sarah), Jacob Chambers (Violet), Emilyn Chambers, and Kenley Chambers.
Roberta loved her large extended family, especially her sisters, Nancy Stevenson (Larry), and Mary Ann Henderson, with whom she managed to get into all sorts of shenanigans. She loved being a member of the Q-tips noted for their many escapades and comedic relief.
As a certified Master Gardener, Roberta loved flowers, farming, and raising Simmental cattle. She was never afraid to help deliver a calf or drive a tractor. She loved fishing in the backyard pond, walking grandkids to the brown water, and dancing to all things Elvis. Evenings spent with her dog, Toby, snuggled in her lap while eating a decadent bowl of pineapple ice cream were two of her constant pleasures. Her love language included nurturing others with delicious meals which she especially enjoyed as a member of the Kitchen Crew at Friendship Baptist Church. Without our Nana, Berta, Bert, and Mom, this life will be a little less bright. Knowing she no longer suffers brings peace to those left behind.
In lieu of flowers consider performing a random act of kindness which Roberta did often. Or support The American Cancer Society, National Alliance of Mental Illness, or a charity of choice. Due to concern with COVID, a celebration of life service will be scheduled at a safer time.
