Robert “Bob” E. Wickes, devoted husband to Frances “Fran” Elkins Wickes, passed away September 7, 2017. Born September 19, 1925 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Harry Edwin & Ellen Engleby Wickes, Bob was a 1943 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School in Salem, Virginia and a 1949 graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Bob served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1944-1945 and was a POW for 5 months in Germany. In addition, he later spoke frequently at schools around town about his experiences in WWII. Bob retired from Phillips Fibers as a Production Engineer in 1999, was a former member of Greenville Country Club, member of Buncombe Street Methodist Church, and a charter member of the American Legion Post 214. In addition to his wife of 68 years, Bob is survived by his son, James E. Wickes of Raleigh, North Carolina and daughter, Robin Wickes Foster of Albuquerque, New Mexico. A Memorial Service is being held to honor Bob’s life on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 1:00 at Buncombe Street Methodist Church in their Chapel, 200 Buncombe St, Greenville, SC 29601. The family will receive friends from 12-1:00.
