Robert Myles Nelson, 91, beloved husband of Connie Bagwell Nelson passed away peacefully on November 25, 2016. Mr. Nelson, (known as Myles to his family and oldest friends and Bob to everyone else) was born in Greenville on January 9, 1925. He was the son of the late, Philip Samuel and Sarah Distiller Nelson.
He was a proud graduate of the Parker High School, Class of 1941. He honorably served his country during World War II; landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day and participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He earned 5 battle stars as a result of his military service. Mr. Nelson retired from BellSouth (now AT&T) as a district manager in 1987 after 46 years of faithful service.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 30 years, include his much loved son, Robert D. Nelson and his wife, Frankie of Simpsonville; the daughter of his heart, Kelly L. Gilbert of Inman; his two grandsons, Robert Philip Nelson of Spartanburg and Luke Gilbert, his pride and joy of Inman; his brother, Holmes D. Nelson of Greenville. He is also survived by his dearest friend, Roland W. Styles of Travelers Rest. Mr. Nelson was predeceased in addition to his parents by his first wife, Martha Milton Nelson; his four brothers, Louis, Vernon, Paul and Jack and his two sisters, Maryland and Mamie. In accordance with Mr. Nelson's wishes, there will be no formal receiving of friends or funeral service held. In lieu of flowers, consider a gift in his memory to Talking Book Services, SC State Library, 1500 Senate Street, Columbia, SC 29201, from which he received so much enjoyment and comfort in his last years or to The SC Commission for the Blind Program, 620 North Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
