Bob passed away from complications of lung disease on Thursday, May 2. Bob was generous to everyone he knew. He was the first to volunteer to lend a helping hand, whether it be picking someone up from the hospital or airport, or making clothes or keepsakes for friends and family. Bob was a skilled craftsman, renovating his house from top to bottom with a keen eye for design. He was a walking encyclopedia of home improvement and sewing knowledge, often the first call from friends and family when they were in the middle of a project and needed advice. Bob always lent a listening ear to his loved ones going through difficult times, and he offered emotional support to those near and far. While his heart was big for the people in his life, his heart grew to twice its size when it came to animals. He always had multiple dogs in his life, and he dog-sat his grand dogs whenever called upon.
Bob donated to several animal rescue organizations, and his heart broke every time he learned of an animal being mistreated. The only thing he loved more than animals were his grandchildren, Joaquin, Diego, and Cecilia. He made his house into a kid's wonderland for his grandchildren -- decorating a guest room with dinosaurs, installing a top-notch playground in his backyard, and even building a zip line for the kids. There is nothing he wouldn't do to get a smile from his grandkids. Bob retired from BMW Manufacturing. Bob is survived by his daughter, Amanda Linares nee Kjellen, his son-in-law, Jose Linares, his grandchildren Joaquin Linares, Diego Linares, and Cecilia Linares, his sister Jackie Schmidt, and his two beloved dogs Ciinder and Olaf. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Judy Kjellen, and his son, Eric Kjellen.
A celebration of life will be held at Bob’s residence in Simpsonville, SC, on June 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm.
