Robert Edwin Huff, a beloved family man and dedicated community servant, passed away peacefully from natural causes on September 10, 2023. Known for his humor, handy skills, and intelligence, Robert's life was a testament to his strong character and unyielding spirit.

Born to the late Helen T. Huff and Robert P. Huff, Robert was a proud native of Berea, where he graduated from Berea High School in the class of 1966. He furthered his education at Greenville Tech before earning his degree from Limestone University. Robert's lifelong thirst for knowledge and insatiable curiosity made him not only a dedicated student but also a wise mentor to many.

Robert, known by most as “Papa Eddie,” had a steadfast work ethic and dedication were evident as he enlisted in the Marines and fought in the Vietnam War, after his years of military service he embarked on a 30-year career with General Electric. As a skilled machinist, he contributed significantly to the electrical industry. His colleagues admired him for his diligence, integrity, and valuable insights. His retirement did not slow him down; instead, it offered him more opportunities to serve his community.

Passionate about giving back, he volunteered with Samaritan's Purse and at Calvary Christian Fellowship's food pantry. His altruistic spirit resonated with those he helped, and his actions inspired others to give back as well. In Robert's words, he lived by the quote from Winston Churchill, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

Papa Eddie’s life was rich with love and family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Catherine Huff, his son Jeremy and his wife Shannon, and his daughter Denise and her husband Shannon. He was a cherished grandfather to Bo Huff, Allie Huff, Bella Teague, Brieanne Eppley and her husband Will, and Bailee Schmidt. He was also a doting great-grandfather to David Ray, Hayden Ray, and Hannah Eppley. He is survived by his sister, Judy Wyatt and her husband Bill, and his brother Brad Huff and his late wife Carolyn. Papa Eddie’s humor and intelligence were a source of joy and inspiration for his family. His handy skills were always in demand, and he built his home and delighted in fixing things for his loved ones. His grandchildren fondly remember his funny anecdotes, and his wisdom will continue to guide them. “Papa Eddie” was a dedicated father, grandfather, & great grandfather. He was also “Papa Eddie” to many who were not within the immediate family, and treated them as if they were family. He took great pride in all of his grandkids and they were always his priority. From trips, school, long distance sports games, and countless rodeos, “Papa Eddie” was there…. He will be remembered by the special things he did for others and truly enjoyed fishing for crappie, golf and camping with the gang!

In remembering Papa Eddie, we recall the words of Mark Twain, "The secret of getting ahead is getting started." Indeed, Papa Eddie got ahead in every aspect of his life. He started as a diligent student, became a dedicated worker, and grew into a loving family man and community servant. His life's journey was marked by his steadfast commitment to his values and his loved ones.
