Robert Neil Hodgens, husband of Jean Gay Hodgens of Anderson, SC passed away on June 30, 2018, at Hospice of the Upstate with his loving family by his side.
Neil was born on November 19, 1929, in Taylors, SC to the late Robert Henry Hodgens and Annabelle Tankersley Hodgens.
After graduating from Taylors High School, Neil attended Furman University. He spent 4 years in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He served on the USS Hanna Destroyer Escort in the Pacific. Neil attended Clemson University and graduated in 1961 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation, he began working for The General Electric Company. Neil and Jean moved to Anderson in 1968, and he worked at the Greenville Plant until his retirement in 1992. Following his retirement, Neil and Jean enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Neil was a die-hard Clemson fan. He was a member of IPTAY and enjoyed tailgating and attending games with family and friends for 40 years. He was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church where he and Jean worked on the Flowers and Decoration Committee.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jean, Neil is survived by his daughters, Terry Hodgens Miller of North Augusta, South Carolina and Kim Hodgens Todd of Greenville. He loved being Papa to his grandchildren, Ashley Smith(Clint) of Atlanta, Georgia, Lauren Schmitt, Mac Todd, and Neely Todd all of Greenville, and his precious great-grandsons, Hodgens and Miller Smith of Atlanta, Georgia.
Neil is predeceased by his parents and his brother Gene Hodgens.
The family extends a sincere thank you to extended family and friends for their love and concern during his illness. A very special thank you to Hospice of the Upstate for their loving care and support of Neil and his family.
A graveside service will be held at M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Drive, Anderson, SC on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:00 am.
The family will receive friends at the gravesite following the service.
