Robert E. Boone, 88, passed away on September 14, 2016 after a brief illness. His long and happy life was devoted to loving God, his family, and other people, and to using his gifts to make the world a better place. He was thrilled his guest column appeared in Monday’s Greenville News. His gentle spirit, perpetual good humor, selfless nature, and sterling character are an example for us all. Born in Elkins, WV, Bob was the son of the late Roy E. and F. Willard Boone. An electrical engineer, he retired after working more than 40 years in industry. He enjoyed reading, woodworking, travel, and music, but especially spending time with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Barbara; son Douglas (Jennings) of the Democratic Republic of the Congo; daughter Linda Bartlett (Bill) and grandchildren Maria Bartlett and Jae Bartlett, all of Greenville; brother R. Harold Boone (Charlotte) of Sistersville, WV; cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 17 at 11:30 AM at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 7 Shannon Drive, Greenville. The family will receive friends there prior to the service at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; Aldersgate UMC; or the charity of one’s choice.
