Born on June 24, 1960, in Greenville, South Carolina, Rita's life was characterized by her unwavering faith, her deep love for her family, and her generous spirit.

Rita was the beloved wife of James Whitman, cherished mother to Rocky Mobley, Michael Whitman, Jenny Whitman, Maisie Whitman, and Brandi Gregory, and a guiding light to her step-grandchildren Jessy, Tommy, Nicole, and Melanie. She was a devoted sister to Herman Gregory Jr. Rita's legacy will live on through her many grandchildren—Stephen, Stephanie, Miguel, Dayauna, Jayden, Elina, Kaeleigh, Matthew, Savannah, Autumn, Seth, Scotty, Elaine, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Gracie—and great-grandchildren Naomi, Brent, Clairabelle, Jacoby. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Herman Gregory.

Rita was a graduate of the local high school, and she carried the lessons she learned into her work in the customer service industry. Her natural warmth and ability to connect with people were evident in every interaction. Rita was a beacon of support and hope, always ready to help others through hard times. Her profound impact was felt when she gave testimony, leading her future son-in-law to be saved at the tender age of 12. Rita's compassion knew no bounds; she even taught an adult who could not read or write to pen their own name, a testament to her patience and kindness.

Her interests reflected her love for life and God's creations. Rita found joy in nature, often walking outdoors to watch the birds and revel in the beauty of the world around her. She had a deep appreciation for music, finding comfort and strength in melodies and hymns. Above all, Rita loved to read her bible and praise God. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her every action and thought.
