Richard Louis Michalove, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away at his home on February 6, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on May 21, 1942, in Asheville, NC, to the late Mildred and W.W. Michalove, Richard's life was marked by his infectious humor, gentle spirit, and remarkable handiness.
Richard's journey through life was as varied and vibrant as his interests. He began his career by serving in the U.S. Air Force. Richard also proudly worked with Delta Airlines, where he formed lasting friendships and left an indelible mark through his dedication and work ethic. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own a restaurant and later delve into the trucking industry, and last but certainly not the least was helping his son open a successful plumbing business as his final career endeavor.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Richard was an avid outdoorsman. He spent countless hours fishing and hunting, reveling in the tranquility and challenge of the natural world. His competitive nature shone through in bowling leagues, and he was known for his skill in billiards. Richard's love for tinkering meant he could often be found repairing a wide array of items, a testament to his practical skills and desire to help others.
In his youth, Richard's vibrant energy was evident in his role as a high school cheerleader, a period that showcased his enthusiasm and team spirit. These qualities remained with him throughout his life, endearing him to all who knew him.
Richard's legacy is carried on by his loving family, including his children; Louis Michalove (Toni Michalove), Adrienne Michalove, Mitzi Michalove, Lorrie Michalove-Velez (Francisco Velez), his brother Kenneth Michalove (Sally Michalove); his eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven grand puppies. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Michalove, his sister Maxine Michalove, and his parents.
Those who knew Richard will remember him for his quick wit and the laughter he brought into every room. His gentle nature made him a confidant and friend to many, and his ability to fix just about anything earned him the affectionate title of "handyman" within his community.
Richard's life was a tapestry of meaningful relationships, hard work, and joyful pursuits. His memory will be treasured and kept alive through the stories told by his family and the many lives he touched. He was a beacon of light and warmth, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
