Richard G. Cyr, known affectionately as Rich to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2023, in Duncan, South Carolina. Born on April 17, 1958, in Somerset, New Jersey, Rich was a man whose zest for life and generous spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Rich's early years were spent in the close-knit community of Somerset, where he was raised alongside his siblings. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Joseph and Delores Cyr, his brother Alan, and his sister Denise. Rich is survived by his brothers, Kenneth, Mark, and Theodore Cyr, who will miss him dearly. His legacy continues through his devoted children, Christine Chander and Joseph Cyr, and his seven cherished grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
After graduating from high school, Rich answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the Navy, where he served honorably from 1975 to 1978. His time in the Navy not only instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie but also ignited his adventurous spirit. Following his service, Rich embarked on a career as an electrician, a trade where his skillful hands and problem-solving abilities shone brightly.
Rich's passion for life was evident in his love for riding his motorcycle. The open road was his canvas, and he painted it with the stories of his adventures. He was always on the lookout for the next journey, the next horizon to explore. His friends knew him as a man who was always ready for an adventure, and they cherished the moments spent in his company.
Beyond his adventurous side, Rich was a man of great generosity. He was the kind of friend who would give the shirt off his back without a second thought. His kindness extended beyond his circle of friends, touching the lives of many in his community.
