On Tuesday, September 7th, Richard Earl Chance, 68, of Spartanburg, SC, loving Husband, Dad, Papoo, Brother and Friend, went home to be with the Lord. Richard was born September 21st in Mobile Alabama and lived there until joining the US NAVY in 1972 where he served for seven years as a Radioman on the USS MACDONOUGH. Richard loved Jesus with all of his heart. His passion was serving others and telling them about Jesus. He supported several ministries in the Spartanburg area. He was a member of Hope Church in Spartanburg, R.O.A.M.E.R.S Motorcycle Ministry, and The Patriot Guard. Richard also served on the Board at Crossroads Youth Ranch for 10 years. Some of his hobbies included photography, drawing, camping, golfing and talking about his favorite football team, Alabama Crimson Tide. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, BF and Mary Chance; brothers, Roy and Vaughn Chance; and sisters, Laura Erickson and Marilyn Jacobs. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sherri Segers Chance; daughter, Jaimie (Arnie) Rollins; son, Jon-Michael (Nikki) Chance; six grandchildren, Nora Rollins, Megan Chance, Conner Rollins, Alexis Henderson, Austin Henderson, and Mallory Chance; brothers, Byron Chance, Barry (Kristy) Chance, and Steven (Cookie) Chance; sister, Paula Chance; brother-in-law, Darel (Virginia) Segers; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Saturday, October 9th. Visitation will be at 12 p.m., followed by the Celebration at 1:00 p.m. This outdoor event will be at Crossroads Youth Ranch, 344 Fleming Road, Pacolet, SC 29372.
