Richard Charles Carrington

August 16, 1942 — December 9, 2023

Richard Charles Carrington, known affectionately as Richard to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home on December 9, 2023, at the age of 81. Born on August 16, 1942, in Springfield, MA, Richard was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature, courageous spirit, and selfless attitude.

Richard's journey began as the cherished son of the late Lillian and Charles E. Carrington. He grew up in a warm household that set the foundation for the incredible person he would become.

After completing his education at Western New England College, Richard embarked on a fulfilling career as an engineer at General Electric. His dedication and skill were evident in his numerous work accomplishments for 40 years. Richard's professional life was marked by the same integrity and commitment that he brought to every aspect of his life.

The cornerstone of Richard's world was his family. He was married to the love of his life, Carolyn J. Carrington, for 62 wonderful years. Together, they created a legacy of love that is carried on by their children, Sandra (Sam) Carrington Mercado, Karen Carrington, and Richard (Brandy) Carrington. Richard was a loving and fun "Poppy" to his grandchildren, Erica (Dave) Zuccaro, Caitlin Lawson, Michael (Christine) Lawson, Maddy Carrington, and Christian Mercado, and to his great-grandchildren, Sophia and Jack Zuccaro. Each of them was touched by his warmth, humor, and the special attention he devoted to them.

Richard's interests were as varied as they were fulfilling. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and joy in the tranquility of nature. Travel was another passion, as he explored new places and created lasting memories with his family. Richard took great pride in his home, often engaging in yard work and home improvement projects, always striving to create a beautiful and welcoming space for his loved ones. His dog, Snow, was a constant companion and the lucky recipient of Richard's spoiling and affection.

Those who knew Richard will remember him as a man who lived his values. His loving nature was the bedrock upon which his family was built. His courage was evident not only in his professional life but also in the way he faced life's challenges with grace. Richard's selflessness shone through in the way he put the needs of others before his own, always ready to lend a hand or offer support.

Richard's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by his family, including his wife Carolyn, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his sister Char. His spirit will live on in the stories they share, the lessons he taught, and the memories they cherish.

As we say goodbye to Richard Charles Carrington, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a man well-loved. His was a life that exemplified the best of us, and he leaves behind a world that is brighter for his presence. Richard's story is not one of an end but a beautiful chapter in the ongoing narrative of his family's history. Though he has left this earthly realm, his influence will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Rest in peace, Richard. Your love, your courage, and your selflessness will never be forgotten.
