Richard Wilson Borry Jr.

Richard Wilson Borry, Jr. (Dick), 76, of Taylors, SC, joined his Heavenly Father on May 25, 2019, at home, surrounded by family.
He was born June 25, 1942 in Hanover, New Hampshire, to Richard Wilson Borry, Sr., and Beatrice Maizie Thurber. He was married on September 9, 1966 to Margaret Elizabeth Kuglin in Bern, Kansas. He attended Enfield, NH Public School where elementary, middle and high school were all in the same building; received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire, and his Master of Science in Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. He worked as a Process Engineer for DeVoe Reynolds Paint Company in Louisville from 1966 to 1970 at which time he was transferred to Hoechst Celanese (Mitsubishi Films) in Greer, SC, where he worked in the same capacity until his retirement in 1997. Until recently when he was no longer able, he enjoyed immensely the monthly breakfasts with other retiree friends of the company. He was an active member of McCarter Presbyterian Church, Greenville, where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon from 1970 to 1983 and of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Taylors, from 1984 to the present, serving at various times on a pastor search committee, as an elder, as a Sunday School teacher, and as a member of a financial committee within the Foothills Presbytery. He was a 40 year member of Gideons International, serving as a new camp formation chairman for several years in the 1980’s and supporting their work of Bible distribution through the years. He was also a faithful member of Upstate Carolina Real Estate Investors Association.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, his children: Bethany Timmerman (Tommy), Richard Wilson Borry III (Chantelle), Tonya Carver (Eric), Tereasa Beckham (Kenny), Joy Lukasiewicz (Matty), and Melissa Henderson (Jason); 26 grandchildren, and others he helped raise through the foster system, who will remain in our hearts forever.
Dick was predeceased by his parents, his sister Betty Jane Borry, and his son, Michael Lee Borry.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 3pm at St Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1860 Reid School Road, Taylors.
Memorials are not expected, but, if you wish, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or to Gideons International. Gideon “In Memory” cards will be available in the entrance hall of the church, or the Gideon International website may be visited.
