Richard Dale Becker went into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Richard (Dick) was born on November 18, 1937, the youngest of eight siblings to Fred and Margaret (Baugh) Becker near Carrollton, Illinois.
After high school, Dick joined the Air Force and served for 20 years, working in aircraft and missile maintenance. While serving in Japan, he met and married his wife, Marianne Clark. Their two children, Becky and David, were each born at different Air Force Bases in the US.
Following retirement from the Air Force, Dick studied aircraft maintenance at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, NC. He served at Bob Jones University from 1978–1987, doing aircraft maintenance. He continued his maintenance career at Spartanburg Downtown Airport and Concept Packaging Group. In 2010 Dick received the FAA’s Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award for his 50+ years of safe maintenance operations.
At age 31, Dick made the most important decision of his life when he trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He immediately began to serve in his church as a maintenance and custodial helper, and as a high school Sunday School teacher. In North Carolina, he served in his church’s bus ministry. After moving to Greenville, SC, Dick faithfully served at Southside Baptist Church, Heritage Bible Church, and for the last eleven years at Cornerstone Baptist Church. One of Dick’s passions was mission trips. For 25 summers he and Marianne filled vital roles at Beacon Bible Camp in a fly-in community in northern Saskatchewan, Canada.
His favorite Bible verse was Colossians 3:23: “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” He passionately endeavored to obey this command and encouraged others to do the same .He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marianne; his daughter, Becky Rush (Jeff); his son, David Becker (Peggy); his eight grandchildren, Jason Rush (Emily), Ashley Rush, Jared Rush (Meg), Josh Rush (Anna), Jesse Rush (Rebecca), Madaline Becker, Jonathan Becker (Sarah), Thomas Becker; and his 6 great grandchildren, Caleb Rush, Amy Rush, Graham Rush, Libby Rush, Eric Rush, and Chelsea Rush.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Margaret Becker; his brothers, Lavere, Nook, Gary, Gerry; and his sisters Esthlena, Loray and BernaLee.
