Richard Charles Aiken, 80, of Taylors, SC met Jesus face to face on July 1, 2023.
He may have been raised in Queens, NY but his true home was Greenville, SC for 47 years. Rich worked
at Michelin as a machinist, but the job he loved was after retirement as a groundskeeper at Verdae Golf
Club. He enjoyed being outdoors hiking, golfing, just being in nature, but what he loved the most was
spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Karen, his “baby girl” daughter
Heather Schwab (Dennis), his; grandchildren Peyton Schwab and Nicholas Schwab, sister-in-
law Wendy Anzalone (Andy), brother-in-law Richard Baer (Peggy), nieces and nephews, and many
friends who became family.
Rich accepted Jesus in his late 20’s and had a heart to serve as well as to tell others about his new friend.
He was a member of Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church for 46 years. He was very involved in the lives of
many young people as he led multiple mission trips, small groups, and as a weekly youth leader. He may
have impacted their lives, but they impacted him more.
Rich served in the Army in the 60’s, and when he got Dementia he went to live at Richard M. Campbell
Veterans Nursing Home until his true homegoing. Many thanks to all the staff members there who took
care of him. Their motto is “Serving those who served.”
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 3 PM at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church.
Donations may be made to Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church Missions, Wounded Warriors Project, or
Tunnels to Towers.
