Phillip “Bud” Hanshaw, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2022 in Greenville South Carolina, while surrounded by his wife and children. His health had been in decline for the past several months, but despite being bed ridden for the last six months of his life, he always had a smile for you when you walked into his room.
In 1957 Phillip met the love of his life, Hattie, while at a USO dance in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He was in the Air Force stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, and Hattie was a laboratory technology student at the Women’s College at the University of North Carolina. The story goes that she saw him from across the room and told her friend that he was the man she was going to marry…he never stood a chance. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage and had two children, Connie (William, deceased) Malone and Robert (Sheryl) Hanshaw. Phillip leaves behind a loving extended family of grandchildren, a brother and sister-in law, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Phillip was fun loving and spirited. He loved a good Dad joke, (not that there are many) and he loved his wife and his children to his last breath. He loved his work as an air traffic controller, his friends, and his family. His absence from this world will be felt by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life for Phillip will be held at Morningside Baptist Church, 1115 Pelham Rd, on February 19 at 11 AM. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:15 AM.
