Peter Russell Maurer, known affectionately as Pete to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home in Taylors, South Carolina, on June 23, 2024. Born on December 26, 1937, in Trenton, New Jersey, Pete was a man of integrity, intelligence, and warmth, whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.

Pete is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Mary Ann Maurer. He also leaves behind his sister, Gertrude "Trudy" Sassi, and his stepsons, David M. Keener (Debbie), Michael A. A proud graduate of his local high school, Pete's commitment to service was evident early on. He honorably served his country in the US Army before embarking on a distinguished 25-year career with the Trenton Fire Department in NJ, retiring as a respected captain. His bravery and leadership left an indelible mark on the department and the community he served.

Pete's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in the tranquility of hunting and fishing. His love for golf provided him with countless hours of joy, whether playing a round with friends or enjoying the serenity of the course. Pete's adventurous spirit soared as a licensed pilot, a hobby that allowed him to touch the sky and experience the freedom he so cherished.

Music was another of Pete's great loves. As an accomplished organist, he brought harmony and joy to many. His love for reading kept his mind sharp and his wisdom growing, a trait that those around him greatly admired. Pete's happiest moments were often spent at the beach, where the sun, sand, and waves were a source of endless pleasure and relaxation.

Pete Maurer was the epitome of a loving husband, brother, and stepfather. His intelligence and wise counsel were sought by many, and his ability to love unconditionally was a gift to his family. His legacy is one of love, service, and the pursuit of happiness, and it will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

As we bid farewell to Pete, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of purpose and joy. His memory will continue to inspire us, and his spirit will forever be a guiding light in our lives. Pete's journey on this earth has ended, but his story will be told for generations to come, a testament to a life of love, courage, and wisdom.
