Trying to consolidate Peggy Milligan of Greenville, SC into a concise record is a near impossible task. Her hydrangea blue and yellow floral theme house welcomed all her friends and family any day of the year. Mouths still water when we think of her fried chicken, yellow squash, chicken and dumplings and the many pies she gave for Christmas.
Growing up in Charleston, Peggy was born May 6th 1938. She didn’t know it at the time, but she would have her pigtails pulled by her soon to be husband, Roy Carmel Milligan in elementary school. Being the smart, driven woman that she was, she graduated early and started attending Texas Women's University at the age of 17, majoring in Math. She left school her sophomore year to elope with Roy on October 12, 1957, and they lived in Charleston. Three years later, their daughter Rose Marie was born followed by Kathy and Michael.
She went back to school and earned her degree in Education from Baptist College and her Masters from College of Charleston. She taught in Charleston, Berkeley and Greenville County schools for many years and helped to manage her husbands construction company at the same time. Her favorite job was mother and Granny and she greeted everyone with “Hello darling.”
After her well earned retirement, Peggy and Roy loved to spend their time cruising to many destinations across the globe. They spent most taco Tuesdays at the local Mexican restaurant with friends, and Saturday mornings trying to outsmart their local squirrel population so more birds would come to her feeders. Her yard and flowers were always gorgeous and she kept up with gardening even after Alzheimer's ravaged her mind. She loved her family fiercely and she left that legacy throughout. She was cared for so well the last few years by Michael and Amy, and the family will be forever grateful.
She is survived by Rose Harmon(Fred) of Grand Junction, CO, Kathy Segars of Ocean Springs, MS and Michael Milligan(Amy) of Greenville, SC. Also grandkids Ashley Harmon McMillan(Matt) of Grand Junction, Colorado. Sarah Williams(Dan) of Chicago, IL. Taylor Harmon of Anchorage, AK. Kaitlyn Milligan of Chicago, IL and Ryan Milligan of Greenville, SC and great grandchildren Burke and Bodhi McMillan and Freddie, Cooper and Ruby Williams.
We will forever miss our matriarch, the smart, kind, welcoming woman that she was. Without a doubt Peggy and Roy are reunited in heaven, holding hands next to each other in beach chairs. Private services will be held later this spring.
