Pearl Rodgers Flanagan left this earthly world to be with her heavenly family December 25, 2016.
Pearl was born July 15, 1923 in Bluefield, West Virginia to William Edgar Rodgers and Gertrude King Rodgers. She spent most of her early life in Pulaski, Virginia where her father was pastor of the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Upon graduation from high school, Pearl went to work for the Bell Telephone system as a telephone operator. Later she worked as a personal secretary in local industry.
In 1948 she married Clifford Peter Flanagan and they began their life together in Charlotte, NC, where Cliff owned and ran Charlotte Finishing Company. In Charlotte Cliff and Pearl brought three children into the world, Patricia, Teresa and Michael.
Cliff moved his business to York, SC in 1963; the family followed, moving to York in 1965.
Pearl, in addition to raising the children in York was very active in the community participating in the Woman’s Guild at Divine Savior Catholic church, serving as a Pink lady at the local hospital and enjoying membership in the York Book Club.
Following Cliff’s death in 1994, Pearl maintained their home in York, and continued her activities at church and in the community. Pearl moved to The Palmetto’s Assisted Living in Mauldin, SC in 2010 to be close to her children.
Pearl’s surviving relatives include a brother, William E. Rodgers, Jr. in Honolulu, Hawaii, three devoted children, Patricia Flanagan (Dick Steffens), Teresa Flanagan Morgan (Norris), and Michael Patrick Flanagan (Deborah), 6 grandchildren and 3 great grand children.
Pearl’s legacy will be her gracious hostess skills, her patient listening ear, her accepting and grateful nature and her ability to build treasured friendships.

Pearl’s memorial service will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal church in Simpsonville, SC at 2 pm on Friday, February 10th. A graveside service will be held at Lakeview Memory Gardens at 11 am on Saturday, Feb 11th, followed by a reception at Divine Savior Catholic Church in York, SC.
