Paul Bernard Wilson

July 14, 1947 — December 3, 2024

Greenville, SC

Paul Bernard Wilson, a man whose laughter and love knew no bounds, passed away on December 3, 2024, at Prisma Health North Greenville Hospital at the age of 77. Born on July 14, 1947, in Sumter, South Carolina, Paul's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, a love of learning, and a delightfully playful sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.

The only child of the late Marshall and Dorothy Sweeney Wilson, Paul leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol Hosfeld Wilson; their four children, Sabrina Wilson, Gordon Wilson, Julia (David) Lamb, and Renee (Michael) Moran; and six grandchildren, Evelyn Kate, David Michael III, Madelyn Irene, Zoey Katherine, Mackenzi Faith, and Ariana Dawn.

Paul's love for his family was paralleled only by his love for animals. He could often be found gleefully playing with one or more of the family's many cats and dogs, or rescuing turtles found crossing the road to ensure they reached the other side safely. His thoughtful gestures, such as warming up the car and clearing off the frost on winter mornings for his wife, or frequently sharing new information and solutions he discovered with his loved ones, were small but powerful demonstrations of his caring spirit and desire to contribute to their well-being.

Paul's thoughtfulness extended beyond his immediate circle. He never met a stranger and had the rare ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, a testament to his friendly nature, charming demeanor, and genuine enjoyment of others. He loved making people laugh and was always ready with a joke, funny face, or humorous observation that could brighten any room.

Paul enjoyed photography, fishing, watching science fiction, and reading and his children fondly remember the many times he took them fishing or to the library while they were growing up. Paul's love for the public library was profound, and he made great use of its resources, continuing to visit until shortly before his passing. He almost always had a book close at hand.

At over six-feet tall, Paul wasn't someone you could overlook, but it was his gregarious personality, lively wit, and infectious laugh which drew others in and made his presence feel larger than life. It was this enormous presence which made an impression on everyone he met and which will be so sorely missed.
