Brethren, we gather here today to celebrate the life and legacy of a man who walked in faith and love, Mr. Paul Douglas Rogers, known fondly to us all as Doug. Born on the wintry day of December 26, 1965, in the heart of Greenville, South Carolina, Doug was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him. It is with a heavy heart that we announce his passing on March 9, 2024, in the very town that he called home for all his years.
Doug was a man of the earth, his hands forever marked by the toil and joy of carpentry. His work was not just a means to provide but a testament to his skill and dedication. He was a craftsman through and through, shaping wood as effortlessly as he shaped the lives around him. His involvement in the community was a reflection of his commitment to service, always ready to lend a hand or share his expertise.
The love Doug had for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Tammy Rogers, a partnership that stood as a testament to unwavering commitment and affection. His legacy continues through his daughter, Brittany (Brantley) Fowler, and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Hannah Grace. His mother, Peggy Free Rogers, and his brother, John (Jennifer) Rogers, along with his nieces, nephews, and the extended family, including James (Wanda) Rowland, Angie, Jimmy, and his six cherished grandchildren, will forever hold Doug in their hearts.
Doug was preceded in passing by his father, Paul Rogers, his brother, Billy Rogers, his grandmother, Frances Manley Free, and his father-in-law, Rock Batson. His mother-in-law, Barbara Batson, remains to honor his memory.
A man of the outdoors, Doug found solace and joy in the simple pleasure of fishing, where the calm waters reflected his serene spirit. His love for carpentry work was not just a profession but a passion that he pursued with vigor, creating pieces that would stand as a lasting tribute to his talent.
Doug was the embodiment of a faith-filled life, his actions a reflection of his loving nature and his handy skills a blessing to all. He walked this earth with the grace of a man who knew his purpose and fulfilled it with every breath.
Today, we do not say goodbye to Doug Rogers; we say, 'Until we meet again.' For in our hearts and memories, he lives on, as a guiding force of love, faith, and the enduring strength of family ties. Let us find comfort in knowing that he rests now in eternal peace, his legacy a blueprint for us all to follow. Amen.
