Patsy "Pat" Ann Helms Long, 75, of Garden City, SC passed away January 31, 2022.
Born in Monroe, NC August 26, 1946, she was the daughter of Maurice Newell and Margie Aycoth Helms. Survivors are her children: Jonathan Scott and Doniven Bryan Long; five grandchildren, Amanda Long, Jon Long, Hayden Madden, Jade Beaverson, and Doniven Long; five great-grandchildren, Devyn, Asher, Darcy, Devin and Memphis. Also survived by three younger sisters, Linda Belk, Libby Rushing and Martha Stewart.
"Patsy" was a very creative, passionate, and talented Beautician. Known highly as the qwner and operator of the "The Body Shop", a state-of-the-art salon located on Walkup Avenue in Monroe, NC in the 1980s. The Body Shop was one of the first full-service salons that included multiple hair stylist stations, a stand-up tanning studio, body wraps, skin electrolysis, exclusive private-labeled JoDons selective products and wig services along with creating her own wig line. She later focused her talents as a Master Cosmetology Instructor on teaching others her craft of hair and skincare.
Patsy's love for the ocean led her to reside in Garden City, SC for the past 20+ years. As Patsy often did she left her stamp at the Beach. Owning and operating her own salons "Ooh-la-la" and "Patsy's Sidewalk Salon" offering full salon and skincare services. Upon her retirement, and for many of her final years, she enjoyed gardening, painting, crafting with seashells often creating one-of-a-kind decor, jewelry, and furniture. She loved playing with her grandchildren on the beach and often found crabbing in the inlet with her great-grandchildren. She was also a lover of cockatiel birds having two she admired greatly; Cracker and Mango.
A graveside cremation service will be held at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC on Saturday, February 19th, 2 pm located under the green tent for family and friends to celebrate Patsy's life.
A further tribute, a celebration of life event, is being organized for family and friends in the Garden City Beach area for June 2022. Further details of this event will be announced at a later time.
