Pan Goodhand, a beacon of kindness, creativity, and spirited joy, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on August 8, 2024. Born on July 27, 1944, in Pembroke, GA, Pan's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with the love of art, the thrill of discovery in thrift shops, and the beauty of nature.
Pan was the cherished daughter of the late Paul and Connie Frere. She is survived by her siblings, Theresa Lindquist (Dick Lindquist) and Erica Anderson (Tom Anderson). She is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Robert Goodhand.
Her educational journey led her to Warren Wilson College, where she earned an Associate's degree in 1964. This foundation of knowledge and her innate talent for organization and management paved the way for her successful career at The Sheraton and Hyatt Regency Hotels as a credit manager during the 70s and 80s.
In 1986, Pan embraced her true calling as an artist, creating stunning stained glass pieces that reflected her passion for light and color. Her artwork, characterized by its intricate designs and vibrant hues, became her signature and brought beauty into the lives of many. She has had many art exhibitions in the local galleries, and also has had an article in Southern Living.
Pan's interests were as varied as her artistic mediums. She found joy in the simple pleasure of a good deal at thrift shops, often saying she relished the hunt more than the purchase itself. Her green thumb was evident in her garden, a testament to her patience and nurturing spirit. She was fortunate enough to travel to many far and exotic places, from Tanzania and Egypt to The Grenadines, Costa Rica and, of course, Paris.
Family was the cornerstone of Pan's life. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Kristin Newton (Chandler Newton), and a doting grandmother to her grandson, Kiel Newton. Pan's home was a hub of warmth and laughter, where music and dancing were never in short supply.
Pan's collections were a reflection of her personality—hands and peace signs symbolizing her welcoming nature and desire for harmony, while her love for music and dancing showcased her free spirit. She also found solace in the company of birds, often spending hours feeding and watching them in her garden.
Those who knew Pan will remember her as the embodiment of kindness. She approached life with a creative flair that inspired others to see the beauty in the world around them. Her spirit was indomitable, and she faced each day with a sense of adventure and a smile that could light up a room.
Pan Goodhand's legacy is one of love, artistry, and an unyielding zest for life. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will continue to shine brightly, like the stained glass she so lovingly crafted, casting colorful reflections in the hearts of her loved ones.
