Nancy Pennell Masters

Nancy Pennell Masters ANDERSON, SC - Nancy Pennell Masters, 88, of Anderson left us peacefully on February 7, 2023, with her sons at her bedside and surrounded by those whom she loved.

Nancy was born on March 29, 1934, in Anderson County and was the daughter of the late Ed and Elizabeth Pennell.  She grew up on the family farm, scouting the woods with her cousins.  Nancy maintained a curiosity of the world and a sense of adventure throughout her life, exploring through travel and books. She was an award-winning century farm owner and one of the first in Anderson to place a farm under a conservation easement.  She served her community through her involvement with Upstate Forever, the Forestry Association, St. John's United Methodist Church, Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Anderson University, Club 24, and Senior Assembly.  Nancy marveled at the beauty of nature and treasured time with family and friends.  She provided unfailing love, kindness, and sanctuary to those around her.  Hers was a beautiful life well lived.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband W. R. Pete Masters.  She is survived by son Don King, Jr. and his wife Kay, of Anderson, South Carolina; Mark King and his wife Collete, of Smyrna, Georgia; stepdaughter Carol Baum and her husband Harry of Athens, Georgia.  She was a loving grandmother of Allison King, Will King, Whit Mellon-King, Spencer King, David Baum, Jason Baum, and Will Baum; and great-grandmother of Oliver Mellon-King and Elliott Pennell Mellon-King.

Private services will be held for the immediate family at Ebenezer United Methodist Church.  Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life gathering, which will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. February 18, 2023, at Nancy’s home.
